Our Story

Stevenson Market started because we saw a slow shift over the years to where people had no idea where their food was coming from — and we decided to try to bring back the idea that knowing where our food comes from should be important to all of us.

Over 100 years ago, the Stevenson family moved from Missouri to the small town of Hobson, Montana, to establish a new home in the wide open plains of the American West. Same as today, agriculture was our sole source of business — however originally, we primarily farmed crops, and raised chickens and turkeys, and sold them in regional markets. By the mid-1940s, we introduced bigger livestock into the mix, and not long after, we found our true calling when we purchased four registered Angus heifers from the respected Airyland Ranch, in nearby Lewistown. 

Five generations later, we sell our seedstock cattle and genetics all over the world, influencing the cattle industry on a global level by helping produce the highest quality beef worldwide. It’s more than likely, one of the delicious steaks or burgers you’ve enjoyed was Stevenson-influenced beef. 

And now today, we’re proud to be able to bring this level of quality right to you and your family. Our system is agile, meaning we can essentially guarantee we’ll always have great beef ready when you want it. Whether you prefer grain-finished, wet-aged, dry-aged, or other options, our model allows us the flexibility to have high-graded beef available, all from Stevenson-sourced Angus cattle. After 80 years in the industry, we're proud to be able to offer beef that is produced by our family, or other families who follow similar practices and have the same values as we do. That’s how we can ensure that you get nothing less than the finest quality.

  • Angus cattle originated from Scotland as did our family roots; breeding cattle has been a part of our ancestry for a very long time.
  • Stevenson Angus ranch is home to America’s longest established annual bull sale.
  • We have influenced and impacted a multitude of cattle industry businesses with our beef genetics.
  • We have helped serve, shape, create or found the Montana & American Angus Associations, the Montana & American Angus Auxiliaries, and the Certified Angus Beef program along with many others.
  • Stevenson youth grow up learning to participate and serve on Montana & National FFA
  • Association officer teams, Montana & National Junior Angus Association officer teams, Montana and National 4-H, and an endless number of local volunteer organizations and activities.
